In 2001 I decided to return to college in order to pursue the goal of earning a doctorate in psychology. In 2002 I earned my Associate of Arts and graduated with High Honors from the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn IL. Following that I attended Illinois Benedictine University and graduated cum laude in 2004 with my Bachelor's of Art in Psychology. Next I attended the Chicago School of Professional Psychology (Chicago Campus). I was awarded my Master's of Art in Clinical Psychology in 2007, passed my dissertation defense in 2008, and my Doctorate of Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) was conferred in 2010.
My practical training during graduate school includes time spent at the Janet Wattles Center in Rockford, IL, with Catholic Charities, the Diocese of Joliet (IL), at the Center on Halsted in Chicago, IL, and the Psychological Solutions Institute in Lisle, IL.
After receiving foundational training in a broad series of therapeutic modalities as part of my doctoral training, I did advanced training in Relationship and Family Therapy ("Systems"). Rather than remaining a generalist, I chose to focus on Multicultural and Community Psychology, with a personal emphasis on Sexual Minorities. At Psychological Solutions Institute I have done additional training in "3rd Wave" Cognitive-Behavioral Techniques of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Functionally-Analytic Psychotherapy, Dialectical-Behavior Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based Psychotherapy.
I have remained committed to seeking out additional training opportunities while attending classes. This includes a Level 1 Certification in the Gottman Method of Relationship Therapy. I am also trained as a Hypnotist via National Guild of Hypnotists.
I have been a member of Psi Chi National Honor Society in Psychology since 2003, and a member of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society since 2002.
